Mi7 Donates R28,900 to Fund Pietermaritzburg Star Scholar’s Trip to Dubai
Date: 15 August 2022
Mi7 National Group has raised R28,900 in funds for Scottsville Primary School head girl, Siphokazi Dlamini, who qualified for an International Spelling Bee to be held in Dubai in September 2022.
The Grade 7 pupil from Ashburton qualified to compete on an international stage after excellent performances in both regional and national South African spelling bees.
She is one of only two pupils who will represent KwaZulu-Natal on the South African team selected for the competition.
In May, Pietermaritzburg newspapers ran an article pleading for funds, highlighting that Siphokazi would need R80,000 to fund the trip.
As a company deeply committed to the community, Mi7 National Group immediately got to work, sponsoring a prize valued at R6000 toward a raffle to raise funds for Siphokazi.
Unfortunately, public participation in the raffle was lower than expected, with only a few small donations having been received. Mi7 then turned inwards, approaching our clients and our team of heroes for donations.
Local companies like PNA Accountants, Serenity Financial Services as well as local businessman Ridwaan Jasat all heeded the call, each making significant contributions toward Siphokazi’s trip.
The bulk of donations came from the Mi7 team, who rallied together in support of our local talent.
“It is important for us as a community to come together in support of our future leaders. The potential of a young girl who has worked hard to achieve academic success should not be limited because of funding. Mi7 remains committed to the upliftment of our youth, be it through community upliftment projects or fundraising,” said Mi7 National Group director, Colin David.
“We appeal to our community to support future endeavours and help us make a difference in the lives of people who deserve it most. We sincerely thank the local businesses and our own team members who donated generously toward making the dreams of a young girl a reality. Lastly, we wish Siphokazi all the best as she represents us all on an international stage.”
During an official handover at the Mi7 Security Hyperstore on Friday last week, Siphokazi said:
“I would like to thank Mi7 for their effort and contribution towards my trip. Thank you for making this dream come true. I will do my best to represent South Africa and bring home the title,” Siphokazi said.
